NEGROS ORIENTAL: Dumaguete, Dauin, Bais, & Manjuyod

Another family trip to be grateful for! We were very lucky to have gotten cheap tickets to Dumaguete last January 2014. Plan your long weekends ahead of time! Book when there are piso sales! Budget travels are very fulfilling! You get blessed experiences at minimum costs! 😉

We were also blessed to have my mom’s friend’s family accommodate us in Dumaguete. They offered their home and car. There were no expenses for accommodation & transportation which we are truly grateful for. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

HUKAD

One of the best restaurants in Dumaguete City is HUKAD, a Filipino restaurant which serves very fresh seafood. Our favorites – Baked Mussels, Sinigang na Hipon & Chocolate Budbod [sticky rice cakes/suman].

There were a lot of foreigners at this resort who were just chilling by the resort, coming from diving at Apo Island and swimming at the beach. The water was very clean and the temperature was just right. For more details, check out sea-explorers.com/dauin/pura-vida-beach-and-dive-resort

You cannot leave Dumaguete without visiting this place. This is the most popular pasalubong place – they are known for their Sans Rival Cakes & Silvanas. For more info, dumaguete.com/sans-rival-bistro

CITY BURGER

We had dinner at a chicken BBQ joint – can be compared to the likes of Mang Inasal, Jo’s Inato. We ordered Chicken BBQ, Chicken Skin, & Chopsuey. We sat outside of the restaurant to feel the scenery of the city.

BAIS DOLPHIN BAY WATCHING

Ready to see some dolphins!

Ready to see some dolphins!

For your day trip needs please contact MANG JESUS & Family – 0920-253-8099. They are very accommodating. The boat for the package [Bais Dolphin Watching, Manjuyod Sanbar & Snorkelling] costs P2,500. They also prepared our lunch which costs an additional P250/ head. They will grill the food for you on the boat, provide the utensils, cooked food, and water.

MANG JESUS has been doing this job for almost 20 years so he was familiar with the patterns of where the dolphins swim. He knew where they were at a certain time of day. The boat ride in Bais Bay was long because the dolphins were not where they usually were (At Tanon Strait), we had to go a little further.

After about an hour, we saw the families of Dolphins! We were so excited! My sisters kept on shouting. We just stayed around the vicinity of that part of the bay waiting for the dolphins to come up every 5-10 minutes. This is the natural way of viewing dolphins which is way better than what you see at Ocean Adventure Parks or Zoos.

Being in the middle of the ocean with these dolphins was also a good experience for the lungs. In Manila with all the pollution, traffic and its fast pace lifestyle makes me appreciate moments and experiences like this more. Fresh air, vast sea sceneries and calmness is a really a good experience for anyone living in the city. Good thing, time is much slower in the provinces. I got to be grateful for the place more.

MANJUYOD SAND BAR

High Tide at Manjuyod Sandbar

High Tide at Manjuyod Sandbar

THIS IS MY MOST FAVORITE PLACE IN NEGROS ORIENTAL. My family prefers the White Island in Camiguin but I like this sandbar more. It is a light brown sand bar in the middle of the ocean. Low tide came around 3:00 PM where we can fully see the sand formations.

I just laid there on the sand staring at the beautiful sky. From time to time, I would look at my right or left at the beautiful scenery of the sand meeting the waves of the water.

It was such a relaxing and blessed experience.

PANDA ICE CREAM

In all the blogs I’ve read, they said that this place is a must eat. They serve fried ice cream and other ice cream desserts. For me, this place is overrated. The ice cream was very bland and the dough was not that good. We even bought the ice cream cake just to taste it, but it tasted like water.

HAYAHAY TREEHOUSE & RESTRAURANT

We went here on our last night. We stayed at the top overlooking the city bay. The ambience was really good – lights, fresh air coming from the sea, music. The pizza & shakes were very delicious too.
